Tartini Violin Sonata in G minor ''Devil's Trill Sonata''

Violin Sonata in G minor: 1. Larghetto affettuoso 2. Allegro moderato 3. Andante 3. Allegro assai-Andante-Allegro assai

“One night I dreamed I had made a pact with the devil for my soul. Everything went as I desired: my new servant anticipated my every wish. I had the idea of giving him my violin to see if he might play me some pretty tunes, but imagine my astonishment when I heard a sonata so unusual and so beautiful, performed with such mastery and intelligence, on a level I had never before conceived was possible. I was so overcome that I stopped breathing and woke up gasping. Immediately I seized my violin, hoping to recall some shred of what I had just heard; but in vain. The piece I then composed is without a doubt my best, and I still call it “The Devil’s Sonata,” but it falls so far short of the one that stunned me that I would have smashed my violin and given up music forever if I could but have possessed it.”
My girlfriend asked where she could get more music like this; I told her to go to Hell.

Now we just need Jesus to play the banjo
Tartini did well to remember 16 minutes of violin when he woke up in the morning , i usually can't remember shit.

@00:00 to @4:04 The dark hour has come for me to loose you because i cant keep fighting whats inside. Sorrow as to why he must be thinking like that. Lucifer begins to cry about why God doesn't love him anymore; his done his best to show it too him; feeling depressed; dissapointed; and a failure. @4:04 to @7:17 lucifer begins to go insane and starts mocking himself, god and humans, he is boastful that he can fix everything right again even before he starts the war; rejoicing that god will love him again. Begins to love God with an anger & rage of a thousand men. @7:17 to @8:36 Cries because he cant taste Gods love again. @8:36 Lucifer begins to go delirious in his thoughts shaking his voice and body out of fear, depression, anxiety, and a deep pain, knowing theirs no relieve for it. @9:41 to @11:41 his tears have turned into nothing and he must go in vain with his insanity, with his plans, to never reach the point of depression again. @11:41 to @12:48 One last depressing goodbye to the one he loved and cared most about. To the one that could make him feel like an innocent child again. @12:48 to @16:30 Lucifer runs steadfast to do his dirtywork. Has had enough of being what he is, has lost himself in his confusion, shows that he is still the best that nothing can overcome his grestness

This piece is supposedly cursed. But I find it hauntingly beautiful...maybe that's the point.
Carolyn Fitch
It's a beautiful piece. I closed my eyes and what I see is the love, hate relationship between God and his fallen angle. Both longing for a reconciliation that will never be.
Mykenzie Long Waugh
For a song Satan supposedly played it has a lot of sad emotions to it, stuff you don't usually pin on the devil. Usually it's trickery, anger, pain, torture, mania etc. But the beginning of this composition made me feel extremely empathetic. Honestly I couldn't have pinned it as devilish if not for the lore, curse, history, and title.
Wow. . . so the Devil did let Johnny win the fiddle contest.
people say that rap and rock is the devils music, no the devil's way classier than that

Dios que bella sinfonía. No sé si es de dios o del diablo. No sé si esto me lleva a la gloria o al pecado, pero esta preciosa música mi corazón a tocado...
The funny thing is that he wasn't hearing the devil playing the violin, it was his own brain composing it. It's likely what he heard in his dream was far worse than this version, or maybe he hadn't heard anything at all, and simply dreamt he heard the most magnificent piece of music, and his brain was convinced of this. This is a common phenomenon where people gain false memories from dreams and describe things liks revelations from god recited perfectly in their dreams, yet are never able to repeat them but insist on the fact that they were recited perfectly. This actually happened to my father who says a bird with the face of christ recited all the revelations to him, but i'm sure it's just his brain telling him he heard them perfectly because how would he even be able to remember them accurately enough to determine their perfection if he can't recite them himself. Still very interesting though. I've had dreams where i've lived entirely different lives from birth to death, and yet when i think about these dreams i can't recall any details even though i believed i could recall every detail, so my brain simply came up with the concept of me living these seperate lives, but didnt actually create any experiences for them. It's essentially a feeling, not an experience. The brain is very fascinating.

The story behind “Devil’s Trill” starts with a dream. Tartini allegedly told the French astronomer Jérôme Lalande that he dreamed that The Devil appeared to him and asked to be his servant. At the end of their lessons Tartini handed the devil his violin to test his skill—the devil immediately began to play with such virtuosity that Tartini felt his breath taken away. When the composer awoke he immediately jotted down the sonata, desperately trying to recapture what he had heard in the dream. Despite the sonata being successful with his audiences, Tartini lamented that the piece was still far from what he had heard in his dream. What he had written was, in his own words: “so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever.”

The Devil has always had the best tunes; this has been known for centuries. Along with literature, theatre, and art, the xian church has always regarded music with great suspicion, when it wasn't completely under their strict and oppressive control. Satan is master of the violin and flute. 18th century Italian composer Giuseppe Tartini was inspired when Satan appeared to him in a dream. He heard Satan playing the violin. He said it was the most beautiful music he had ever heard. It was "indescribably beautiful." He immediately awoke and tried to write it down to copy it, but it never turned out the same way. He did the best he could to duplicate it. He published it and named it "The Devil's Trill." http://seethetruth.ucoz.ru/_ld/0/1_Joy_of_Satan.pdf

It's just me or the Devil's Trill sounds like the devil's story? Starts when he was an angel (00:00-08:36) and finish when God exiled him from the paradise and creates hell. In this part, also we can feel his envy, or maybe others feels, but not love anymore. (08:37- 12:48). The final part, is so intense... (12:47-16:30) could represent his pain and hate. (Sorry for the possibles errors in my writing , I'm Chilean and I speak spanish).
There are parts where ir makes question surely the devil must have a soul... Its evident in the aching tunes of how mich he would like to return to Gods grace but his pride wont allow it. Each note repents to God unintentionally, the emptiness is felt with each stroke to be near the light once more. The devil played his lonliness to a mere man, in twisted hope that God may like. Ohh how far you have falleng morning star.

“Uma noite sonhei que tinha feito um pacto com o diabo, o qual se dispôs a me dar vantagens, em troca de minha alma. Meu novo conhecido antecipava meus desejos e os satisfazia. No sonho, intrigado em saber se o demônio realmente entendia de arte, tive a ideia de entregar-lhe meu violino para ver se ele sabia tocá-lo. Qual não foi meu espanto ao ouvir uma Sonata tão bela e insuperável, executada com tanta arte. Senti-me extasiado, transportado, encantado; a respiração falhou-me e despertei. Tomando meu violino, tentei reproduzir os sons que ouvira, mas foi tudo em vão. Pus-me então a compor uma peça – O Trilo do Diabo – que, embora seja a melhor que música que já escrevi, é muito medíocre perante a que ouvi no sonho”.

The whole theme of the piece soaks with it. Its the theme of someone who was cast down , looked as aberrant but in truth bears brilliance and knowledge , the weirdness within that each and one of us can't or dont want to embrace. the sweetest things are those that we cannot do. It's the tragedy of us not having fulfilled those dark wishes .

The Devil Himself
1:25 is my favourite part. The tenderness in the violin and the gentle lifting undertones really shine through in this version and create a sort of soft "child in mothers arms" feel for a moment before plunging back into the harsh sharp notes. Its so reprisentative. This is my favourite composition by far and in it i hear the struggle between man and emotion. Living and pain.

According to the story behind this song, the composer heard the Devil playing this tune in a dream, and upon waking up tried desperately to recreate the utter masterpiece he'd just heard. The song turned-out to be beautiful ... but in the composer's eyes was a far cry from what he heard in that fateful dream all those years ago. He would spend the rest of his life trying to remember this tune, but died without achieving this perfect transcription. Going through the story, I asked myself "Why would such an evil being create such a beautiful masterpiece"? An intriguing, yet deeply depressing thought crossed my mind: What if the song was actually a _curse_ upon Tartini? What if the "inferior" song Tartini shared to the world was the _correct_ song the Devil played, but he was damned to forever believe the song he wrote down was mediocre in comparison to what he dreamt? Honestly, I couldn't think of a worse punishment than being the only person to hear the greatest violin sonata ever made, yet so consumed by your own inability to communicate such a masterpiece that _you die the true song's only, and greatest, critic._ What I'm trying to say is that Hell may not be the fiery pit of eternal pain and suffering the scriptures make it out to be. Indeed, Hell may simply be an ampitheatre demons play the most beautiful music, only to discover no one around you can hear a sound, and will never fully comprehend how beautiful it is no matter how hard you try and explain. But the song still plays. The audience still remains in wonder. You will stay in this place. You will try to think of a way to make them hear. You will always fail. *Forever.*
